Following up on a bit of reminiscing in yesterday's earlier threads, I wondered if anyone here was a fan of the Welsh band Man, or if they were well known in the States.

Because they would jam and improvise they got labelled 'West coast', and that reputation was enhanced when John Cipollina joined them for a tour, but to be honest they were a bit heavy for that.

Here's a clip RTWS posted yesterday if you want to see them in action.

snori-

dunno about us following, but i really used to dig em and they were one of my fav bands >76. after that i lost track of em.

used to see em live and got some of their best lps: live at the padget rooms penarth (very rare limited edition), be good to yourself.., back into future, maximum darkness (w/cip) + some real rarities like greasy truckers party (@ the roundhouse, w/hawkwind, etc..) and christmas @ the patti (mini double live lp w/help yourself, etc..) got dekes iceberg too. theres B- sbd of man w/cip @ smegs. the sound is 2 thin, but i dld it anyway (file: man1976-08-09johncipollina)

they could jam like nobody, fairies, hawkwind, ufo or gong being their only matches. another great little welsh band back then was budgie. saw them only once @ fulham greyhound and they blew my mind totally, the only time ever i considered getting earplugs

then motorhead roared in and the world changed

Thanks for the tip about smegs, Fireeagle. I noticed they are doing a short tour in the UK next month - Mickey Jones is now on the sideline along with Deke Leonard through ill health, but I think I heard that his (Mickey's) son will be playing.
